My favorite shows of the 90's and 2000's

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Full of complex characters, great acting, consistent story telling, strong women and of course, snarky humour, BTVS was hard not to like! Even at it's most depressing in season 6, it was still compelling and consistent.
It will always be the show that put Joss Whedon on the map, even if Firefly

  • Boy Meets World

Rarely does a family show tackle such hard hitting issues, which usually always revolved around the character of Shawn Hunter, beautifully played by Rider Strong.  Alcoholism, abandonment issues, intimacy issues, death of a parent, long lost brother. You name it, and it's probably happened to Shawn Hunter.
I don't know about all of you, but I just wanted to wrap him up in a blanket and protect him.
I can't be the only one right?
Not only that, but for a kids/family show, Boy Meets World was actually really funny at times, and had the most realistic parents and realistic dialogue I've ever seen on a kids show.

For seven years we watched these kids grow up and go off to college.
And lets be honest, who didn't get emotional in the final scene when they say goodbye to Mr. Feeny!

It's such a shame that the long awaited spin-off Girl Meets World, which centers around Cory and Topanga's daughter Riley, is such a colossal Disney disappointment.
But alas, I will still watch Rider Strong's guest appearance in the Thanksgiving episode.

  • Popular

Like "Boy Meets World", rarely does a teen dramedy successfully mix angst and comedy properly.
Season One of Popular really managed to do that though. It was hilarious but serious at the same time.
This show was my bible growing up. I loved all the hard hitting issues in it,
Created by Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck), Popular premiered on The WB back in September 1999, starring Leslie Bibb and Carly Pope as two nemeses with PMS at Kennedy High. Filled with snarky humor, Popular wasn’t just another teenage drama — it mocked the genre and itself.
Unfortunately creator Ryan Murphy knows how to a create a good show and run it into the ground, as seen from NipTuck, Glee and eventually American Horror Story.

  • Ugly Betty.

At the time, this show as pretty  ground breaking. Never before had we seen a lead character be intentionally unattractive on an American prime time show.
At the beginning Betty was lovable, and the exploits of the other characters were just as compelling.
It was funny but kept us hooked with all it's drama.

  • Roswell
  • Charmed
  • Odyssey 5
  • Ugly Betty
How about all of you? What shows did you worship back then?
